United Way of Marathon County Make a Difference Day

Volunteers needed to RAKE a difference!

How It Works:

  • Groups are matched with one or more yards based on the number of volunteers and how much time your group can commit.
  • Volunteers provide leaf raking services. Homeowners are responsible for providing leaf bags.
  • Yard assignments and instructions will be sent by Friday, October 10.
  • Volunteers complete raking on the primary event dates or use the backup dates if weather interferes.
  • You will have the option to pick up a resource bag for the homeowner, which includes community resources and small gifts.
  • Details about where and when to pick these up will be included in your assignment email.

Who Can Volunteer:

  • Families, workplace teams, church groups, school groups, clubs, or friend groups.
  • All ages welcome. Youth must be supervised by an adult.

Time Commitment:

  • Flexible. Most yards take between 1–3 hours depending on yard size and group size.
  • You choose your date within the raking window based on your group’s availability.

What You’ll Need to Bring:

  • Rakes, gloves, and any other tools your group prefers (e.g., tarps or leaf blowers).
  • Leaf bags are provided by the homeowner. However, bringing a few extras is encouraged in case bags are unavailable or insufficient.
  • Dress appropriately for fall weather and outdoor yard work.

How Leaf Disposal Works:

  • Each municipality has its own rules for leaf pickup or disposal.
  • You’ll receive specific instructions for your assigned yards. Generally, leaves are bagged and placed at the curb for pickup.
