HISTORY
United Way of Marathon County has been providing clothing to the community since 2013 through Rebecca's Closet (children's clothing) and Career Closet (workwear). These projects were led and championed by Women United and Emerging Leaders Affinity Groups, respectively. In an effort to increase access, reduce stigma, and reduce barriers, the Community Closet re-opened July 2023 for all ages, offering in-person shopping and a wider variety of clothing styles.
MOBILE CLOSET
Our Mobile Closet made its first stop November 2023. United Way of Marathon County was the recipient of the 2023 Impact 100 Greater Wausau $100,000 grant. With this grant, we are able to take clothing on the road and bring it to accessible sites throughout Marathon County.
CLOTHING
The Community Closet gives new and gently used clothing to anyone who needs it. You do not need to show proof of income. Each household member can get up to 10 clothing items and one pair of shoes once per month. United Way may change the number of items or how often you can visit based on what we have available.
STEEL TOE BOOTS
The Community Closet provides one pair of steel-toed boots per year to individuals with a completed Boots to Work voucher and proof of employment. To get boots, you must bring your voucher and employment verification when you visit. Boots to Work Voucher
