HISTORY
United Way of Marathon County has been providing clothing to the community since 2013 through Rebecca's Closet (children's clothing) and Career Closet (workwear). These projects were led and championed by Women United and Emerging Leaders Affinity Groups, respectively. In an effort to increase access, reduce stigma, and reduce barriers, the Community Closet re-opened in July 2023 for all ages, offering a wider variety of clothing styles and in-person shopping.

MOBILE CLOSET  
Our Mobile Closet is expected to be running by November 2023. United Way of Marathon County was the recipient of the 2023 Impact 100 Greater Wausau $100,000 grant. With this grant, we are able to take clothing on the road and bring it to accessible sites throughout Marathon County.

CLOTHING
The Community Closet provides new and gently used clothing to guests who express a need, without requiring an income verification. Guests will be eligible to receive up to 10 items of clothing and one pair of shoes per household member, as often as once per month. United Way reserves the right to adjust the quantity of clothing items and the frequency of allowed visits based on inventory.

STEEL TOED BOOTS
The Community Closet will provide steel toed boots to individuals who present a completed Boots to Work voucher with appropriate employment verification. Guests may receive no more than one pair of steel toed boots each calendar year. Boots to Work Voucher

SPECIAL ORDERS
Guests who need clothing but are unable to visit the closet during shopping hours may fill out a request form to have items selected and packaged for them to pick up. Please email communitycloset@unitedwaymc.org or call 715-848-2927 to make these arrangements.

DONOR INFORMATION

Donations will be accepted during the hours listed above. Donations can be dropped off at 705 S. 24^th Ave, Wausau, WI 54401, Suite 440. This is the opposite side of the building from the United Way office.

We accept donations of new or gently used clothing. If your clothing is torn or stained, we are unable to give it to families who visit the closet - please look through your items before bringing them to us. Please limit donations to 2 bags or boxes of clothing/shoes at one time.
